About the Job
Our client, a leader in solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects, is seeking a Director of Power Marketing and Origination. This role involves identifying and executing offtake opportunities for utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid projects, as well as establishing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders. This position reports to the VP of Origination.
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities
Lead negotiations for power purchase agreements and build transfer agreements.
Foster and maintain relationships with procurement professionals at utility companies, municipalities, cooperatives, community choice aggregators, and corporate off-takers.
Develop a commercial strategy for each market, offering intelligence to inform development and acquisition decisions.
Identify new offtake opportunities through competitive solicitations and bilateral discussions.
Oversee bid package preparation for utility-scale solar, storage, and hybrid projects in North America.
Propose creative and innovative deal structures to ensure successful outcomes.
Stay updated on market, industry, economic, consumer, and competitive trends.
Prepare investment documents and presentations for Senior Management.
Participate in industry groups and monitor regulatory changes to identify opportunities, risks, and market solutions.
Possess technical expertise in the entire lifecycle of utility solar project origination, development, and valuation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business, engineering, sustainability, finance, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in power marketing, trading, origination, or similar roles.
Advanced knowledge of structuring and negotiating offtake deals, including financial hedges, VPPAs, tolling agreements, and other evolving structures.
In-depth understanding of U.S. utility-scale solar development, power markets, and customer segments.
Familiarity with battery storage contracting structures is a plus.
Ability to stay current with evolving technologies, regulations, and trends influencing renewable energy adoption.
Adaptability to new tasks and changing circumstances in a dynamic environment.
Experience working effectively in a geographically dispersed organization is advantageous.
Excellent interpersonal, time management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Willingness to travel extensively, up to 40% of the time in North America and potentially more.
